About your appointment

Appointments with our lawyers, advocates and social workers are made through a booking system. These bookings can be made by telephone or in person. We do need to complete a ‘conflict of interest’ check before we can confirm your booking. You can find out more information about conflicts of interest below.

Do you have any questions?

Conflicts of Interest

  • You may have been told that we cannot give you advice because of a ‘conflict’.
  • Conflicts are very common and can arise in some of the following situations:
    • We have previously advised the other person in relation to this matter or another matter, in the last 7 years, or
    • We have advised another client in an unrelated matter, in which you were also involved, or
    • A staff member personally knows you or the other party.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot inform you of the reason for the conflict as this information is protected by confidentiality and privacy requirements.

Accessibility and assistance for clients

  • All of our offices have disability access but please let us know if you require specific access options when your appointment is confirmed.
  • We have access to interpreters (telephone and in person) for all languages supported by Translating and Interpreting Services (TIS) National.
  • All interpreters must be pre-booked (including AUSLAN) and certain language interpreters require up to 7 days’ notice.
  • In most cases, we can also assist you in having documents translated into English.

Documents needed for your appointment

  • Your appointment may need to be rescheduled if the relevant documents have not been provided in time.
  • Ideally, you should provide all relevant documents to us by email or in person so we can make a copy at least two working days before your appointment. This allows us to review the documents and be better informed about your situation.
  • You will also be asked to complete, sign and return our Client Agreement & Charter, which you can  download here or access via the text message link provided to you.
  • If you are not able to email the documents, you can bring them to one of our Mirrabooka or Joondalup offices and we can scan your documents for you.

Children and attending appointments

  • We do not allow children between the ages of 2-17 into legal advice appointments concerning family law matters due to the often-sensitive nature of the discussions.
  • Exceptions may be considered but only by prior arrangement.
  • We are not able to supervise your children while you attend an appointment.

About our Fees:

  • We charge a fixed $30 appointment scheduling fee for all appointments. This fee should be paid once your appointment is confirmed and you will be provided with payments instructions.
  • We do not charge additional fees for legal advice.
  • If you have an onsite appointment you are able to pay same day just before your appointment.
  • If we prepare documents for you, a document preparation fee is payable. These vary from $20 to $100 and are reduced where a valid concession card is presented.
  • We accept major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) and also EFT and cash for on-site payments.
  • You are free to contact us if you would like to discuss fee options for you and your situation.
